# Tournaments

Tournaments let you run time-boxed competitive events for your players, entirely self-served from within Operator Backoffice. Instead of relying on your game Suppliers' own promotional tools, you configure the event, the eligible players, and the prizes yourself and Hub88 handles the live leaderboard and scoring behind the scenes.

{% hint style="info" %}
Jump to [**Creating a Tournament**](/operator-backoffice/tournaments/creating-a-tournament.md) or [**Managing Tournaments**](/operator-backoffice/tournaments/managing-tournaments.md) to learn more.&#x20;
{% endhint %}

### What you can do with Tournaments

* **Launch a tournament in minutes** \
  Set a name, a start and end time, and a scoring type, and you're most of the way there.
* **Score play your way**\
  Choose from four ready-made Tournament Types, each measuring performance differently.
* **Narrow the field** \
  Restrict a tournament to specific countries, currencies, and operators.
* **Curate exactly who plays** \
  Build your eligible player list by CSV import or by adding players one by one, then opt them in.
* **Reward winners with a tiered prize pool** \
  Set payout amounts per rank, and review every prize before it's paid out.
* **Track everything live** \
  Real-time leaderboard, prize pool, and time remaining are built into every tournament's detail view.

### How Tournaments Work

**Tournament Lifecycle**

Every Tournament progresses through the following stages:

<table><thead><tr><th width="239.455810546875">Status</th><th>What it means</th></tr></thead><tbody><tr><td><strong>Draft</strong></td><td>Being configured. Not yet published.</td></tr><tr><td><strong>Scheduled</strong></td><td>Published and queued to start at the defined start time.</td></tr><tr><td><strong>Active</strong></td><td>Live. The leaderboard is updating in real time. Participants who have had a win event will be included in the leaderboard.</td></tr><tr><td><strong>Ended</strong></td><td>The end time has passed. No further scores are accepted.</td></tr><tr><td><strong>Prizes Pending Approval</strong></td><td>The tournament has ended and its prizes are ready for your review.</td></tr><tr><td><strong>Completed</strong></td><td>All prizes have been actioned. The tournament is closed.</td></tr><tr><td><strong>Cancelled</strong></td><td>Permanently cancelled before completion. This can't be undone.</td></tr></tbody></table>

### Accessing Tournaments

You'll find **Tournaments** in **Operator Backoffice → Promotional Tools**.

<div data-with-frame="true"><figure><img src="https://3012741343-files.gitbook.io/~/files/v0/b/gitbook-x-prod.appspot.com/o/spaces%2FMTWFNZ1g2QuImiZFIO1o%2Fuploads%2F29gYXxUpgRHwFWGYmdjM%2FTournaments%20table.png?alt=media&amp;token=c44bc4ac-fc8d-46d2-9dc9-312ef37dfd8d" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure></div>

### Tournament Table View

The tournament table gives you an overview of every tournament you've created.

<div data-with-frame="true"><figure><img src="https://3012741343-files.gitbook.io/~/files/v0/b/gitbook-x-prod.appspot.com/o/spaces%2FMTWFNZ1g2QuImiZFIO1o%2Fuploads%2F29gYXxUpgRHwFWGYmdjM%2FTournaments%20table.png?alt=media&amp;token=c44bc4ac-fc8d-46d2-9dc9-312ef37dfd8d" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure></div>

Each row shows:

<table><thead><tr><th width="193.123291015625">Column</th><th>Description</th></tr></thead><tbody><tr><td><strong>Tournament name</strong></td><td>The name you gave the tournament.</td></tr><tr><td><strong>Tournament ID</strong></td><td>The unique identifier for the tournament.</td></tr><tr><td><strong>Start and end dates</strong></td><td>Shown in UTC.</td></tr><tr><td><strong>Tournament Type</strong></td><td>The scoring type: <br>Win Multiplier, Sum Multiplier, Biggest Single Win, or Points Per Round.</td></tr><tr><td><strong>Operator</strong></td><td>The operator entity the tournament belongs to.</td></tr><tr><td><strong>Products</strong></td><td>The product(s) the tournament applies to.</td></tr><tr><td><strong>Games</strong></td><td>The games included within the tournament's scope.</td></tr><tr><td><strong>Status</strong></td><td>The tournament's current stage — see Tournament lifecycle below.</td></tr><tr><td><strong>Actions</strong></td><td><strong>View</strong>, <strong>Duplicate</strong>, <strong>Edit</strong>, and <strong>Cancel</strong>.</td></tr></tbody></table>

You can filter the table to find what you need, and save any filtered view as a **segment** you can share and return to, the same segment functionality available across Operator Backoffice. See more in [Segments](/operator-backoffice/segments.md).

Click **+ Create Tournament** from the table view here to start a new one, see step-by-step guide in [Creating a Tournament](/operator-backoffice/tournaments/creating-a-tournament.md).&#x20;

For everything, you can do with an existing tournament like resuming a draft, publishing, adding players, ending, cancelling, duplicating, and approving prizes, see [Managing Tournaments](/operator-backoffice/tournaments/managing-tournaments.md).

### Tournament Detail View

Clicking any row in the tournament table or choosing **View**, opens that tournament's detail view, giving you the complete picture in one place:

* A stage tracker showing where the tournament is in its lifecycle: **Draft → Scheduled → Active → Ended → Prizes Pending Approval → Completed**
* An overview, including time running, time remaining, the number of players opted in, and the total prize pool
* A live leaderboard
* The tournament's full scoring configuration and eligibility settings

<div data-with-frame="true"><figure><img src="https://3012741343-files.gitbook.io/~/files/v0/b/gitbook-x-prod.appspot.com/o/spaces%2FMTWFNZ1g2QuImiZFIO1o%2Fuploads%2FIZrifffqxmmUh3jHXaIi%2FOverview%20-%20tournament%20details%201.png?alt=media&amp;token=35e8fefb-aac0-4c38-b2d7-a92628a37a29" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure></div>

<div data-with-frame="true"><figure><img src="https://3012741343-files.gitbook.io/~/files/v0/b/gitbook-x-prod.appspot.com/o/spaces%2FMTWFNZ1g2QuImiZFIO1o%2Fuploads%2Fal0O6xeOAaB8oV8iJyFO%2FOverview%20-%20tournament%20details%202.png?alt=media&amp;token=5871592c-dd84-4ad5-a9ef-ba75990a0144" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure></div>

The detail view also has two further tabs:

* **Full list of eligible players**, an overview of every player eligible for the tournament, and their opt-in status.
* **Prize approval** as the full leaderboard and prize status once the tournament has ended, where you action payouts.

For step-by-step instructions on using both tabs, and the key decisions you can make from the detail view, like ending or duplicating a tournament, see [Managing Tournaments](/operator-backoffice/tournaments/managing-tournaments.md).

## Querying This Documentation
If you need additional information that is not directly available in this page, you can query the documentation by asking a question.

Perform an HTTP GET request on the following URL with the `ask` and `goal` query parameters:

```
GET https://docs.hub88.io/operator-backoffice/tournaments.md?ask=<question>&goal=<user_goal>
```

`ask` is the immediate question: it should be specific, self-contained, and written in natural language.
`goal` is what the user is ultimately trying to achieve, the reason they need the answer. Sharing it helps GitBook give you a better, more relevant answer. A goal is most helpful when it describes the outcome the user wants rather than restating the question. For example, with `ask=how do I create an API token`, a goal like `automate deployments from our CI pipeline` lets GitBook tailor the answer to that use case.

The response will contain a direct answer to the question and relevant excerpts and sources from the documentation.

Use this mechanism when the answer is not explicitly present in the current page, you need clarification or additional context, or you want to retrieve related documentation sections.
